Playing with friends on different platforms
Aniimo supports cross-platform play, but your server choice, made in the first minutes of the game, decides who you can actually play and trade with.
Reported by players of the closed betas. Re-checked against the live game from 16 Sept 2026; anything that changes is corrected here first.
- Aniimo supports cross-platform play, and cross-platform co-op is listed for the Xbox version.
- Cross-progression and account linking have been addressed directly by the developers.
- Everyone who wants to play together has to pick the same server.
- Servers are region locked. There are three: America, Europe, and APAC.
- You choose your server as one of the first decisions in the game, then go straight into character creation.
- Characters cannot be transferred between servers.
- You can keep separate characters on multiple servers at the same time without deleting any of them.
The platform question and the server question are not the same question. Aniimo supports cross-platform play, so being on different hardware is not by itself a problem. Being on different servers is.
That second part catches people out because the choice happens early. Server selection is one of the first things the game asks you, and character creation starts immediately afterwards. By the time you have a character, the decision is already made.
Here is what that means in practice for two players who want to group up, trade, and stay friends in the game.
Cross-play and what happens to your account
Aniimo supports cross-platform play. Cross-platform co-op is listed for the Xbox version, so playing with someone on different hardware is part of the design rather than a workaround.
Cross-progression and account linking are a separate matter from co-op, and the developers have addressed those details directly. Treat them as their own thing to check rather than assuming they follow automatically from cross-play.
You all need the same server
If you want to play together, everyone has to select the same server. There is no way around that one. It is the single decision that determines whether you and a friend end up in the same game world.
There are three servers: America, Europe, and APAC. They are region locked, so the choice is tied to where you are rather than being a free pick from a menu. If your group is spread across regions, agree on the server before anyone starts playing, because it is easier to settle that in a chat than after the fact.
Characters stay where you make them
Characters cannot be transferred between servers. If you pick the wrong one, that character stays there. This is why the timing matters: server selection comes first, character creation comes immediately after, and the window to reconsider is short.
The softer version of the fix is that you can maintain separate characters on multiple servers at the same time, and you do not have to delete an existing character to do it. So a friend on another server is not a dead end. It just means starting a second character there rather than bringing your first one across.
Before anyone logs in, agree on the server with the people you plan to play and trade with. Cross-play covers the platform gap. Nothing covers the server gap except a second character.
